SCAI membership

What is a SCAI Membership

What is a SCAI Membership

What is a SCAI Membership

Joining SCAI as a member is a bit like participating in an advanced internship or research project. SCAI members pay a monthly fee in order to gain access to a portion of SCAI managed property for the purpose of building their own project. They come under the protection of SCAI as a legal organization and community partner and they connect with SCAIs resources and the community of other SCAI members

Membership proposal

What is a SCAI Membership

Each member submits a proposal to SCAI outlining their specific project and explaining how it connects with starlight cycling. Click on the link at the bottom of the page do download a proposal form so you can see the exact details required to submit a SCAI membership proposal. Projects can range in complexity from planting a single tree on a Gaia farm, to organizing a research coalition to petition City Hall for alterations in specific zoning laws.

Schedule a visit to a Gaia farm as a guest to talk to other members and get an idea of where there are needs and oportunities

Membership tiers

Under construction

Tier I -$5.00/ month

This tier is perfect for someone who wants to support SCAIs mission but doesn't have enough extra time or resources to commit to a big scope project. This membership tier still gives physical access to Gaia farms and events and membership meetings, but it does not offer a leadership role over a specific area of land or project. Examples of tier 1 membership proposals are :

-Providing pictures of Gaia farm community and wildlife

-offering ocasional solo dance, meditation, prayer, or art to intentionally bring healing energy to the Gaia farm or community

- bringing food or drinks to membership meetings

- walking the trails on a Gaia farm

- cutting and stacking dead branches into neat wood piles

Tier II - $30.00/ month

Tier two members need access to a specific portion of land to practice a skill, hobby, or cottage business. They typically offer a lot to the Gaia farm by building infrastructure that will stay with the land, but they also benefit a lot from having low cost access to Gaia infrastructure, community, and liability protections

Examples of tier 2 proposals:

- building an enclosure and water system for a flock of ducks and raising your own flock of ducks

- building and maintaining a composting system

- building and maintaining a greenhouse or walipini

-creating a workshop area to do chainsaw art or woodworking

- creating a studio space with a floor or pole or hanging structure where you regularly practice flow art or lyra or pole dance.

-  creating and maintaining a weekly ecstatic dance or drum circle LLC that hosts events and paying guests  on a Gaia farm

- repairing or refurbishing vehicles on the property

Tier III - $300.00/month

This tier is perfect for anyone planning to spend considerable time on the property including overnight access. Vanlife or digital nomad individuals are often attracted to tier III membership because it gives them considerable support in pursuing their permaculture lifestyle goals while allowing them to continue living a simple mobile lifestyle. Gaia farms are zoned open pieces of land where temporary camping as well as establishing permanent residences are strictly prohibited. Because of this restriction tier three members have to word their proposals and practice their projects very carefully so they don't violate any county codes or zoning laws putting other SCAI members and projects at risk.

Examples of Tier III projects:

- designing and building a small shelter ( under 200 square feet)  out of natural locally sourced building materials

- refurbishing a travel trailer or tiny home

- creating and maintaining a grey water  irrigation system

- providing night time security for the projects and animals active 24 hours on the property.
